James Green - Telling My Story Through Abstraction
I grew up in a small western Maryland town a few miles from Cumberland, MD. I moved to Richmond more than 40 years ago and found it an excellent place to live and raise a family. There’s nowhere else I would call home.
My early years as a photographer helped me to see things others usually miss. Photographing what I was seeing led me to see that abstraction exists all around us. The grittiness of urban streets and organized chaos of nature greatly influenced the choices I made when creating abstract paintings.
I have worked in encaustics, acrylics and oils. I tend to split my time between acrylics and oil with cold wax . The thick cold wax gives me the freedom to explore textures that I gravitate to in most of my work. I recently have a new found fascination with collage.
I’m an exhibiting member of Metropolitan Richmond Artists Association. I’ve participated in more than 30 exhibitions in the Richmond area in both group and solo shows. I received the first place award in MRAA’s 2024 annual juried show.
